Label TextIn 1958 Kesey was a Stanford graduate student working as a night aide at the Menlo Park Veterans Hospital. He also volunteered as a subject for a CIA-sponsored study of LSD, which was then legal. Kesey wove these experiences into his novel "One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest." Later he and a group of friends, “The Merry Pranksters,” crossed the country and back in an old school bus, a journey described in Tom Wolfe’s "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test." The Pranksters toured the Bay Area in 1965-67 with mobile Acid Tests, promoting the possible benefits of hallucinogenic drugs.ProvenanceDavid Davis
