DescriptionPeter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, the Freedom Singers, Pete Seeger, with Bob Dylan in frontLabel TextAfter serving as the Peace Corps first photographer in 1961, Scherman became a successful freelance photojournalist. He went to the Newport Folk Festival in 1963 to see the Kingston Trio, and Peter, Paul and Mary, the two biggest folk acts of the day. Another headliner was Joan Baez, accompanied by then boyfriend Bob Dylan. On the Friday evening Dylan joined Baez for a duet; the next night Peter, Paul and Mary sang two of his songs. Scherman took this photograph on Sunday, when Dylan had taken center stage.
