Label TextThe most influential social reformer of the era, King was a Baptist minister who promoted Civil Rights through nonviolent civil disobedience. He organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, and two years later helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. At the March on Washington in 1963, King distinguished himself a great orator with his “I Have a Dream” speech.
