Label TextOn their first trip to the United States, the Beatles performed two concerts besides the "Ed Sullivan Show." The first was at the Washington Coliseum on February 11. Following Jay and the Americans, the Righteous Brothers, and the Caravelles, the Beatles played twelve songs in about an hour. The stage of the indoor basketball arena was like a boxing ring; so the band moved equipment around to play to the surrounding crowd. After the concert the Beatles went to a ball at the British Embassy. Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home did not attend for fear of being upstaged.
