DescriptionSteel. Long quadrangular thrusting spike with hexagonal base; downturned fluke stepped below, pierced with 3 holes opposed by tall, narrow crescentic axe blade, pierced at its inner edges by triangular groups of 3 holes each. Body of axe blade is pierced by circular grouping of 6 holes around a seventh. Open socket with long langets, front & rear with separate pair on sides. Secured to modern wooden staff of octagonal section by screws & nails.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on April 14, 1930 from March Brown, Surrey, England. Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
