DescriptionVery long triangular thrusting blade of lozenge section to its base which is pierced with 6 triangular groups of 3 holes each. Small crescentic axehead drawn into cusps above & below & pierced with groups of holes. Opposed by triangular flat fluke slightly angled downward & pierced with 3 holes at its base. Top of fluke with short projection forming loop at base of thrusting blade. Head extends down staff in open socket drawn out in 2 long langets. Modern woven woolen casing with tassel. Head secured to ancient, perhaps original, wooden staff (probably oak) marked below fluke with Roman number "XXXIV". Staff has holes from a former fabric covering on the grip.
