DescriptionHead features a long thrusting spike of quadrangular cross-section; a concave crescentic blade; and a sharply downturned rear fluke with a large upward lug. Both the blade and fluke are pierced with decorative patterns of round holes and adorned with various cusps around their perimeter. Rectangular socket, open on 2 sides; the socket extends into 2 langets.

Staff probably restored, of chamfered rectangular cross-section.
ProvenanceBurghard Steiner (Riverdale-on-Hudson, NY) purchased by John W. Higgins on January 26, 1927 from sale at Walpole Galleries (NY), their # 68. Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
