DescriptionComposed of 8 triangular plates forming the bowl, atop 5 rectangular plates (hinged to each other) around the lower perimeter; the bowl plates are joined by mail links. The upper edge of the lower plates undulates upward at each hinge-point, with another large undulation in the center of the smallest plate, presumably marking the front point of the helmet. The hinges also have scalloped edges. The mail links alternate riveted and punched types; the riveted links are smaller than the punched ones, except for those that join the mail to the plates. The links are very worn and thinned, and local variation in types suggest working-life repairs.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on May 1, 1931 from W.O. Oldman (London, England). Given to the Museum on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
