DescriptionRusseted iron, with bronze fittings, & lacquered leather with silk lacing. Deep, closely fluted skull flattish on top, & having deep, curved downturned peak at brow, & wide, curving nape defense of 4 lames with blue & red lacing. The "fukigayeshi" are relatively large, & proper right bears gold "mon" of linked rings used by Samurai general Wakisaka Yasuharu (1555-1626). Interior of peak red-lacquered, & there is thin, blue cloth lining & thick, twisted cords within.
ProvenancePurchased by the Museum from Thomas Woroniecki (NYC), together with HAM# 2809-2814, on 9 May 1945, his number 5098. Armor is comprised of HAM#s 2808.1-12. Price paid for armor was $37.50. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
