Label TextAs a boy Baumann settled with his family in Chicago, where he studied, and worked in commercial art. In 1912 he moved to the Appalachian village of Nashville, Indiana. There, among a cast of mountain folk and eccentric painters, he established himself as a leading color woodcut artist.
