Label TextMany Chicago artists made summer painting trips to picturesque Brown County, Indiana. Baumann moved there in spring 1910. "You have visions of painting innumerable pictures, but that is a delusion," he later recalled. "No one in Brown County ever overworks. In a day or so you may begin stretching a canvas, and again you may not, for unexpected paths trail over the hills and tempt you as you walk miles in search of those elusive motives we have all seen but never have been able to grasp."ProvenanceThe artist; Ann Baumann, Santa Rosa, CA
