DescriptionWooden scabbard, gently curved to accommodate a "wakizaski" blade. Originally with mounting at mouth, & rounded at drag. Decorated overall with irridescent shell fragments on lacquer. Lower half has gold & polychromed, ascendant floral motif on both faces. At mouth, reverse has long rectangular recess for the "kozuka" (by-knife) now carried as HAM# 2290.3.
ProvenancePurchased on 9 January 1936, as part of a group from Boston Antique Shop (Boston, MA), their item G-197. Paid $12 for lot HAM#2290.1-4. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
