DescriptionRusseted steel. Circular, with domed center having 4 bossets with lobed flanges. Center register is pierced against copper sheet, with palmette arabesques, & lobed medallions, inscribed in Persian. Solid areas & inscription is enriched with gold koft-gari. Outer registers are chiseled with scrolls, centrally organized leaf & petal designs with register alternately with cartouches & roundels containing silvered Persian inscriptions. Applied brass rim. Reverse with pierced "U" shaped loop at each bosset for arm straps & red cotton lining with traces of cloth tape used for attachment.
ProvenanceBurghard Steiner (Riverdale-on-Hudson, NY) purchased by John W. Higgins on January 26, 1927 from Walpole Galleries (NY), their no. 25. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
