Label TextPieter van der Hulst, who is thought to have been born in Malines, was registered as a master in the Antwerp guild in 1589. The few signed works by him are all landscapes or genre scenes painted in a very fluid style. This painting exhibits his characteristic treatment of foliage and greatly stylized, almost toy-like, figures and animals. ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. John Adam, Jr. (gift of 25% given 12/19/83; additional 25% partial ownership given 12/17/91; remaining 50% partial ownership given 11/5/97)
