Label TextA music fan before he got his first Leica camera in 1959, Marshall became a freelance photographer of magazine photo-essays and album covers. He was the only photographer allowed backstage at the Beatles’ concert at Candlestick Park on August 29. The band played just eleven songs in their last touring performance after nine years on the road and over 1,400 shows. Marshall became the leading American rock photographer of the 1960s, photographing in California, the Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and the Rolling Stones’ American tour.ProvenanceDavid Davis
