Label TextOn the day of the president’s funeral, the casket was carried upon a horse-drawn caisson from the Capitol to the White House. From there, military units accompanied the cortege to Saint Matthew’s Cathedral. At the head of the procession Mrs. Kennedy, and her brothers-in-law, Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Massachusetts Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy, led on foot. The two Kennedy children rode in a limousine behind them. The president’s father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., waited at the cathedral. On View
