DescriptionOf steel, gutter-shaped, widening to rounded end. Opposite open with slightly outturned edge. Two narrow rectangular wrist plates joined with butted mail on 1 side at wrist. Do not appear to be original to main plate, as they are shortened & decorated with random geometric patterns in silver koft-gari. Main plate decorated with band of oval cartouches divided by circles, all filled with repeating stylized floral motifs. Center decorated in silver with floral grouping, animals (lion and deer) & perhaps abstracted vegetation, all on a plain ground.
ProvenanceEdward Hubbard Litchfield collection purchased by the Museum at Parke-Bernet Galleries (NYC) on December 6, 1951, sale no. 1293. Price of $20 for the lot included HAM#s 2974.1-4. Collection transfer from Higgnis Armory, January 2014.
