Label TextCeballos developed his skills in the bullrings of Buenos Aires before moving to Spain in 1772. He was said to have had one African and one Native-American parent, and fans gave him the nickname “The Indian.” On July 10, 1775, he was performing as a banderillero in Pamplona, where he became the first to bind and saddle a bull. Ceballos became an instant star, and performed this feat regularly in Madrid in 1776-77. Sometimes he even played a guitar or tossed sweets to the crowd while riding. Ceballos died in 1780, after being gored in the bullring at Tudela in Navarre.ProvenanceCraddock and Barnard, London, UK
